John W. Jung Memorial Scholarship

A huge congratulations to this year’s recipient of the JWJ Memorial Scholarship: Ellie-Kay Bahr!

A Statement from Ellie-Kay:

“My name is Ellie-Kay, and I'm from Waukesha, Wisconsin. I'm currently majoring in Genetics and Genomics along with a certificate in Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education, and I anticipate graduating by 2027. This year, I am beyond honored to have been chosen as the recipient of the JWJ Memorial Scholarship, which recognizes students who display leadership qualities and a passion for service.

This year I have found my passion for service in Adapted Fitness at the Bakke Recreational Center. Here, I help individuals with diverse abilities and disabilities achieve their fitness goals. This volunteer opportunity has opened doors to new experiences, such as joining the Leadership in Adapted Fitness Club (LAF), which promotes awareness and creates events for people in the community to try activities they might not otherwise have access to.

My goal as I continue at Madison is to make a positive and lasting impact on the lakeshore area by advocating for a more inclusive community and raising awareness of inaccessible areas. I hope to inspire a progressive and positive movement that supports the disability community and makes a noticeable difference in people's everyday lives.”

John W. Jung Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was created in honor of John W. Jung, class of 2001. John conceived and helped coordinate the now annual All-Campus Party (ACP), a weeklong celebration of UW-Madison that provides substance-free entertainment intended for tens of thousands of students, faculty and community members each year. Despite his dynamic leadership, ability to excel in and outside of school, and his commitment to serving others, John struggled with an ongoing battle against substance abuse and addiction. This memorial scholarship seeks to recognize students who exemplify John's traits of leadership, excellence, and service, all in pursuit of upholding the Wisconsin Idea. The recipient will be recognized at the end of ACP week.
